St. Paul’s News

St. Paul’s Celebrates 156 years of Mission and Ministry

St. Paul’s will have several special events planned for Sunday Morning, October 3rd, including organ music to remind us of Leo Sowerby’s compositions for Wa-Li-Ro. The recent repairs to the organ have it sounding better than it has in many years. All are invited to join us on Sunday morning October 3rd. The members and friends of St. Paul’s help maintain the historic building. We give thanks for all those who continue to help maintain this local landmark. We especially thank those who contributed to the Panting For Tomorrow Fund, the donor who provided the total kitchen renovation, Food Pantry donors, and those important donations we use for day-to-day expenses. St. Paul’s is still collecting pull tabs for Ronald McDonald House in Cleveland. We hope to fill our 19th 5-gallon bucket this fall. Drop off your pull tabs on Sunday morning, October 3rd, or any time this month.

Blessing of the Pets: Oct. 3rd at 4 p.m.

St. Francis of Assisi (1182-1226), is known for his love for God’s creation. In his “Canticle of the Creatures,” he reveals how all creation is connected in one family under God’s loving care. It is common for Episcopal Churches to offer a blessing for pets on a Sunday near his feast day (Oct. 4th). This year St. Paul’s offers the 10th annual blessing of the pets on our labyrinth at 4 p.m. (scheduled after the antique car parade is over). All kinds of animals are welcome but we encourage them to be in a carrier or on a leash. One year, we had pet rats appear on leashes!. Even if you do not have a pet to bring, join in our prayers and celebration of God’s creation.

Veteran Recognition

American Legion Post 542 invites all veterans to attend a veteran recognition and pinning at 11 a.m. on October 8th. One of the many organizations who recognize veteran will make a presentation as part of the 100th birthday events for Post 542. We hope for good weather as we gather at the Bahney residence overlooking the bay. Please sign up in advance by contacting Legion Chaplain Mary L. Staley at clergy.stpaulspib@frontier.com. Veterans may bring their friends. Everyone is encouraged to carpool.

Food Pantry Welcomes Donations & Provides a Variety of Assistance

The community Food Pantry at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church welcomes donations. At this time of year, we can be a great place for cottagers to drop off their unused items from the summer. We love seeing some of the unusual items arriving in the fall. Please do not drop off opened or expired items. We want to provide safe and reliable items on our shelves. You can drop off items when the pantry is open or call for a pre-arranged drop off time when someone can meet you at the door.

Food Pantry Hours

Food Pantry Hours for October 2021 to April 2022 will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The door is open for any community member to pick up or drop off items. Anyone can call to arrange for a pick-up time outside these hours. St. Paul’s can also provide other types of assistance in the winter months. Need a winter coat? Need to pay for a flight to the mainland for a doctor’s appointment? Need assistance paying the rent or other bills? Need something the Food Pantry doesn’t stock? Please call the Rev. Mary L. Staley at 419-285-5981, or stop by the church office. All requests are confidential. No forms to complete like other community service agencies.
