Senior Center News
By Chris Joyce
Summer is just flying by! Can you believe it’s August already? Where does the time go?
Don’t forget to check the bulletin board at the Senior Center as well as the calendars posted at the Senior Center, General Store, Post Office, Twp. Office and Library for any last-minute events that are not planned far enough in advance to get them on the calendar in time for this publication!
PLEASE NOTE: The Senior Center will be closed from 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 4th through 10 a.m. Thursday, August 5th. Coit Cleaners will be here to deep clean the carpet and tile floors.
Good News! Our Senior Lunches will resume on Monday, August 9th. Lunches will be served at Topsy’s every Monday at 12 noon. Please make your reservation by 12 p.m. on the Friday before by either signing up at the Senior Center or calling the center at (419) 285-5501. It is important we let Topsy’s kitchen know the lunch count by 12 p.m. Friday so they can plan accordingly for our senior lunches!
The EMS continues to take Blood Pressures every Monday at 10 a.m. This is a wonderful service they provide so feel free to get yours checked. The “60+ Clinic” is scheduled for Thursday, August 26th. This free health clinic is put on by the Ottawa County Health Dept. for those 60 and older. If you would like to take advantage of this free program, please call 419-734-6800 to make your appointment. It provides basic services to people such as blood pressure screening, blood tests for anemia, blood sugar and cholesterol screening, weight and diet information, health and medication counseling/education at no charge. Through a comprehensive assessment, a nurse will answer any questions and provide education or referrals to private physicians if needed.
All our regularly scheduled weekly activities continue and our seniors have discovered the many health benefits, both mental and physical, that regular exercise and socializing provide. AquaMotion is being held in a beautiful, heated pool at the newer condos by the airport. Please join us anytime and discover what wonderful people walk participate in our activities!
Lastly, I just want to say again how very thankful I am for our seniors and their willingness to volunteer here at the center. Each and every volunteer has such a vital role in keeping the place running smoothly! I deeply appreciate everything you do from bringing in baked goods for coffee socials, teaching various classes when needed, and many other such “works.” The giving of your time and hard work does not go unnoticed! As I’ve said before, it takes a great crew to run this ship and I couldn’t do it without your help! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
